Dangerously Americanized Canadians

I wish I could tell you more about this band.  What I know is they're from Winterpeg (Winnipeg), Manitoba.

This record was reportedly pressed in 1989, but apparently it took three years to print the sleeve.  Rarely lasting more than 1:30, Face Tomorrow is full of short, sharp shots of hardcore fury.  Not entirely my bag...but then again: I do this more as a history lesson and for archival purposes. 

I originally found this EP on a collection called We Can't Help It, We're From Winnipeg.  With 32 songs, it was too large to clean up.  So I've separated this into the original EP from DAC.  I'll try to get you the rest of WCHI,WFW once I get some more time.

Uh-Oh Canada! - Vol. 1 (Fan Comp)

Here's an early Christmas gift for you:

This is a fan compilation I made, of nothing but Canadian underground rock from between 1975-1995. This is the first in a series of similar comps I'm putting together.

I've tried to put together a nice mix of different styles, from straight-ahead Punk Rock and Garage Punk, to Alt-Country, New Wave and Post-Punk, Jazz-Funk, Jangle-Pop, Space Rock, Industrial and Reggae. While many of the songs and artists might not be "definitive" of Canadian punk rock ("What...? No Teenage Head? No DOA?, etc."), during the time frame I've provided, I've tried to concentrate on some selections that might not immediately come to mind.

Rest assured, the so-called "definitives" will be included in subsequent volumes.

I know the cover is a bit cheesy and lame (trust me...it's hard to find good band photos out there without copyright -- this one's courtesy of Chris Barry and the late Bryan Damaged c/o Punk History Canada dot com). Originally I was going to call it "Uh-Oh Canaduh!"... but that was too much of a ripoff of the Oh Canaduh series of punk rock covers. I might re-change it altogether, I don't know.

Boys Entering Anarchic States Towards Internal Excellence

If you haven't figured it out by now, the above statement makes up the acronym, "BEASTIE", which is how the Boys' nomenclature came about.

In 1982, the Beastie Boys recorded an EP of hardcore punk material, called "Poll Wog Stew", which would be so far removed from their later hip-hop stylings.

Don't get me wrong...I actually prefer their hip-hop guise. But I thought this would be of historical significance or curiosity.

Interestingly, the song "Egg Raid On Mojo" reportedly originates from an incident whereby a bouncer at a nightclub denied the band entry. They later returned -- dressed in black -- to pelt their offender with eggs.
